fall fashion preview – structured handbags July 15, 2010 posted in Fashion

Handbags for the Fall are more sleek and refined.  Gone are the days of unstructured hobo bags.  Fall handbags have clean lines and interesting details such as clasps, bows, use of dual materials, rich colors, riveting and zippers, etc.  I personally love this design from Fendi:

What do you think about Fall handbags?  Will you be adding a new handbag look to your wardrobe this season?

  • Jeannine Kennedy:

Janice, I agree. I love cross body bags for that very reason. Hands-free rocks!

  • Emily:

Love the contrasting liner of that Fendi bag… gorgeous!

  • Janice Carnevale:

I love bags of all kinds. But it has to be able to go over the shoulder. I have no use for a bag that takes up one of my hands. I need my hands for other things, like using my phone, holding paperwork, or changing songs on my iPod :)

fall fashion preview: colors July 14, 2010 posted in Fashion

So, I hope you are enjoying the Fall fashion preview all this week on The Stylish Planner.  I love Fall colors – they are so warm and inviting and most Fall colors are really flattering with my hair and skin tone.  A lot of wedding planners use Pantone for help with wedding color inspiration.  Did you also know that they put out a fashion color report each season?

image

Click on the report cover shown above to visit the Pantone site where you can view the report online and even print or download it for reference.  The report is worth perusing at your leisure and includes great commentary from several designers on the colors and how they used them in their designs.

Hint:  Shown on the cover is Woodbine Green, THE hot color for Fall 2010!

What do you think about the Fall colors?  What is your favorite?

Don’t forget to comment on the blog this week for your chance to win a $50 gift card to Neiman Marcus!

  • Emily @ Southern Weddings:

Ooo, that green is just lovely! In answer to your question, I think the fall colors are great! My favorites are Woodbine, Lagoon, Endive, and Living Coral.. gorgeous! Oh yes, and Lipstick Red.

fall fashion preview week: trend report part two July 13, 2010 posted in Fashion

Yesterday we looked at key wardrobe pieces for Fall and today we will look at the details we will see in Fall fashion.  Lace, pearls, fur and feathers will be seen on articles of clothing, shoes, hair accessories and handbags.  I love that the designers are using two of my favorite classics, lace and pearls.  Here’s just a hint of some of the luxe details coming our way next season:

Fur:  Fur, much like the other details you’ll see today, will be seen on dresses, coats, shoes, boots and even handbags.  While fur is a controversial material, you can find a selection of faux and the real thing.  Faux may be the way to go both for your conscience and your wallet.  But then again, this beautiful coat from Michael Kors is neither faux nor inexpensive.  I say go for it – think of it as an investment piece. {*wink*}

imageMichael Kors feathered fox cropped jacket at Neiman Marcus

Lace: The European designers seem to be presenting the best takes on lace.  We will see lace details on blouses, dresses, t-shirts, shoes, handbags – everywhere this Fall. Check out this lace print rubber rain boot by Valentino:

imageValentino boot at Neiman Marcus

Feathers:  For Fall, we’ll see delicate sandals aflutter with feathers, dresses covered in plumage and feathered hair accessories as well.

Dress by Badgley Mishka, shoes by Manolo Blahnik can be found at Neiman Marcus.

Pearls: Now, I’m not talking your average, conservative pearls.  I mean chunky, layered designs mixed with edgy black chain links or any ultra interesting mixed-media pearl creations.  These are not your grandmothers pearls!

Do you love these fashion details as much as I do?  Check back in with me tomorrow when I will take a look at Fall fashion color trends.

Don’t forget to comment on the blog this week for your chance to win a $50 gift card to Neiman Marcus!  All comments will be pooled at the end of the week and one winner randomly chosen for the giveaway.  Simply tell us what you love about Fall fashion trends for your chance to win.

  • Emily:

I’m still on the hunt for a fabulous pair of classic leather riding boots (in my price range, of course). I do love those lace wellies, though!

    2010.Jul.15 2:25 pm

  • Janice Carnevale:

I love boots in the fall. I’m in search of either low heels or wedge boots that are also stylish.

fall fashion preview week – trend report part one July 12, 2010 posted in Fashion,Uncategorized

To say that I am very excited about upcoming Fall fashion trends is a gross understatement. Of course I love fashion all year long, but Fall colors and textures really make me swoon. Some of the Fall trends have surprised me, and others are classics that I love to see brought to the forefront by the industry. Here is an item that surprised me: The Pantsuit.

When I worked in the corporate world many years ago, I loved pantsuits mainly because I despise pantyhose and am cold natured, so I’m much more comfortable in pants. More recently, however, I tend to shy away from any kind of suit simply because of the uniform look. I like to mix and match suit pieces, but I rarely wear them together. Given how the lovely feminine details soften the menswear edge of these suits, I reserve the right to change my mind about these lovely designs:

Suits shown above by Armani.

Some other items that may surprise you this fall are the types of outerwear you will see. Capes, vests and ponchos, oh my!

Vest by Bagatelle.

Poncho by Elizabeth & James.

Cape by Burberry.

Tomorrow, The Stylish Planner will bring you Part 2 of the Fall Trend Report and it is all about the “details”.

Don’t forget to comment on the blog all week long for your chance to win a $50 gift card from Neiman Marcus!

What Fall trends are you seeing that you really like? Let us know!

  • Jeannine Kennedy:

Congrats to Emily at Ayer at Southern Weddings Magazine for winning the $50 Neiman Marcus gift card for her comment on the blog! Happy shopping, Emily!

    2010.Jul.30 11:12 am

  • Emily @ Southern Weddings:

I wouldn’t have thought to go in for that Bagatelle vest, but it’s really catching my eye — great pick!

fab fashion friday – fashion week contest! July 09, 2010 posted in Fashion

I am so pumped about next week’s posts on The Stylish Planner that I wanted to use today’s post to give you an idea of what is to come…

It’s hard to believe that my car thermometer actually registered 108 degrees earlier this week (true story), but it did. In the midst of the hottest days of the year so far, I am up to my ears in lovely Fall fashion goodness, including fur!

Next week, my hubby, my boy and I will be enjoying a long overdue vacation at Sawgrass Marriott in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Thanks to intel from my friends at Neiman Marcus, while I am away you will enjoy a Fall Fashion Preview – every day of the week!

On Monday, we will start with Part 1 of the Fall Trend Report, continuing on Tuesday with Part 2 of course. On Wednesday, I will spotlight my favorite trend for Fall. Thursday’s topic may be my favorite day as I discuss what’s new in handbags and Friday, well actually Friday is my fav day as we take a look at fall SHOES!!!! (I may have just drooled a little bit – excuse me!)

Honestly, I like what the designers have come up with for the next season, and can’t wait to share some great findings with you! Hint: you will see lots of feathery goodness, an old standard making a comeback, clean lines with leather, and two time tested classics are on the forefront for the Fall. You may only need to add a few key (luxe) pieces to your wardrobe and voila! You are ready for cooler temperatures!

When I return from my vacation, one lucky person will receive a $50 Neiman Marcus gift card just for commenting on the blog at any point throughout the week! Use the gift card to invest in that “luxe” item for your Fall/Winter wardrobe.

Thank you all so much for your support of The Stylish Planner. Tune in next week for all the details on the Fall Fashion preview!

fabulous fashion friday – techcessories June 04, 2010 posted in Fashion

I recently received a great Daily Candy article in my inbox that sparked my interest.  Called, Tech and the City, it highlights several tech products featured in the movie, Sex and the City 2.  Thank you, Daily Candy for introducing me to the term, “Techcessory:  n. 1. Any stylish gadget that serves the dual function of keeping you connected on the go and making you look cool. 2. An increasingly important part of your wardrobe.”

The Tech and the City article spotlights a beautiful, HP Mini "digital clutch" designed by Vivienne Tam shown in a scene of SATC2 with our favorite PR Gal, Samantha.  Who knew technology could be so beautiful?!

I love the idea of techcessories, and extending your style beyond just the shirt on your back, so to speak.  Since getting an iPhone a few years ago, I feel completely lost if it isn’t with my reach, and I’m sure most of you feel the same about your phones.  At the time of purchase, I went with a basic black, rubber case for protection, but I do find myself longing for a more stylish option.  Allow me to introduce the latest accessory, (or techcessory) that I have my eye on:

Yes, one of my favorite designers has a line of stylish iPhone covers.  Now my problem is which one to choose!

Do you have a favorite techcessory?  Do tell!

fabulous fashion friday – satc2 fashion May 28, 2010 posted in Fashion

Everywhere we turn, people are talking about the movie Sex and The City 2.  Being a big fan of the show, of course I carved out time yesterday to go and see it.  Like any movie, it had it’s good parts and bad parts, but I must say I was thrilled with the fashion.  I’m also a big fan of a fashion website called Rent the Runway, and I’m pleased to say that they are offering many of the designs worn by the SATC gals in the movie.  Case in point, the soon to be iconic white Halston Heritage dress that Carrie wears in the opening.  You can rent it for $50.  Yep, you heard me right, $50.  Retail, it would cost you $325 – if you can actually find it anywhere.

Of course, I realize that you may not be a “Carrie”.  Maybe as a professional woman, you are more of a “Miranda”.   Or perhaps you are prim and proper like Charlotte?  And it is possible that you are more of a Samantha.  (If so, I’d like to know exactly why we are not already bff’s?!)  No matter your personality or fashion sense, Rent the Runway has a Sex and the City look for you.  In fact, they have made it very easy for you to shop the looks according to the style of your favorite character.  You really should check it out.

On this last day of the week prior to a fabulous 3 day weekend, I raise my glass to all you stylish wedding and event professionals out there.  Here’s to you, good friends, great fashion and movies that encourage us to keep our glamour quotient high.

“Carrie” on.

Whether you’re out shopping for the day or hitting the city at night, the perfect handbag or clutch paired with the perfect bracelet(s) are key this season.

There are tons of handbags to choose from, but I particularly love the shoulder bags and sleek statement clutches. As for the bracelets, I love nothing more than to stack them! If you’re not a fan of stacking your bracelets, get in the habit—just kidding…I actually recommend a nice statement cuff.

fabulous fashion friday: vintage t-shirts May 14, 2010 posted in Fashion

One of the reasons I love summer is that I tend to allow myself to be more casual in my personal time.  I’m a big fan of vintage t-shirts.  I could seriously kick myself for getting rid of some of the great concert t-shirts I’ve had over the years.  I’d love to have some of those babies back right about now!  Pair them with your favorite jeans or a denim mini-skirt and you’re good to go.

Anyway, everything old is new again, right?  An added bonus of vintage t-shirts is that they are a sure fire conversation starter.  Here are a few of my favorite vintage and vintage look t-shirt finds:

RUN DMC Marine Juniors T-Shirt.Aerosmith Wings Salmon Jr T-ShirtJanis Joplin Sing Girls T-ShirtKOL Revelry Jr T-Shirt.

Top row from left to right:  RUN-DMC T-Shirt – $29.99, Aerosmith T-Shirt – $19.99,

Bottom row from left to right:  Janis Joplin T-Shirt – $18.99, Kings Of Leon T-Shirt – $19.99  all t-shirts can be found on www.slingshotshirts.com.
