fabulous fashion friday: the details (giveaway!) July 30, 2010 posted in Contests

I don’t think it is any secret how much I love fashion accessories.  I think you can take the simplest outfit and dramatically up the style quotient with great accessories.

I’m feeling generous today, so I have a nice little giveaway item to share with you.  Simply leave a comment below telling us what your favorite accessory item is and why.  Every comment will be “tossed in a hat” and a winner will be drawn from all the entries.

Polka Dot Pin

I really debated keeping this Polka Dot Pin for myself.  It is soooo cute!  I wear a lot of black and white, so I could think of a dozen or so ways to wear this.

Seriously, you’d better comment below in order to win it before I change my mind!  Happy weekend, everyone!

planner’s emergency kit must have item & *contest*! June 07, 2010 posted in Contests

Back in January, I posted a complete list of items that I carry in my planner’s emergency kit.  One of the many items included is Hollywood Fashion Tape.  Last week as I was enjoying a little retail therapy, I noticed that there is now lovely new packaging for the products, along with a new “Red Carpet Assortment” with 5 unique shapes.  SCORE!

Hollywood Hollywood Fashion Tape

I’m feeling rather generous today, so in keeping with my promise to commence with several new giveaway’s on the blog, I’m pleased to announce this contest giveaway.

I will gift to one individual, a Hollywood Fashion Tape duo – The Original easy to use strips, and the new, “Red Carpet Assortment” double stick strips in 5 unique shapes.  The two items together are a $12 value and I will mail to you anywhere in the Continental United States.  The contest will end at midnight EST tomorrow night (Tuesday, June 8th) in anticipation of another giveaway that starts Wednesday morning!

Winning is easy and fun for everyone…just add a comment to the post (below) with a short and sweet retelling of your funniest ever wedding attire mishap – aka “wardrobe malfunction”.  Whichever story makes me (and the blog readers) laugh the most wins.

For those of you who are reading but not contributing, help your friends out by re-tweeting their stories and encouraging others to chime in.  After all, it is wedding season (and a Monday), so we could all use a good laugh!

Good luck!

  • Em Humphries:

In September 2008, I was working a wedding that was at the home of the Groom’s family. I was starting to make the rounds to get family pictures started and I noticed the mother of the ringbearer.. well freaking out. I walked in the room and the suit was literally falling off the little boy! Apparently, he had been sick all the week before and lost weight in the process so now his tiny little tux was falling off of his even tinier little body! So… after 20 minutes of fashion taping, velcro-ing, safety pinning my brains out, we finally were able to keep his pants up and his vest on and the little coat he was wearing covered it up quiet nicely ;) THEN about 10 minutes later one of the Bridesmaids ripped the hem in her dress! Luckily I still had all the “fix it” stuff out, added ta needle and thread to the mix and began reattaching her hem. Oh that crazy day! Not fun at the time, but hilarious to me now! You can’t even tell in all the pictures! ;)

  • Jenn Giles:

I wasn’t help planning the wedding, but I was a guest at a wedding where the bride’s extensions starting falling out when one of the flower girls got their barbie brush and starting going to town on the back of the bride’s head. Of course she didn’t feel it because it wasn’t her real hair…I think the savvy planner just chose a different hairstyle to cover up the newly bald spots, which made the extensions a waste of time and money. But, the bride didn’t mind at all since she got to walk down the aisle looking and feeling beautiful!

  • Janice Carnevale:

The sole of a groomsman’s rented tuxedo shoe (the color gray, not traditional black) peeled almost all the way off minutes before the start of the ceremony. We used black electrical tape around the heel and the leg of the pant covered the tape.

what is a stylish planner? blog contest! November 19, 2009 posted in Contests,Featured Planners

Or, said another way, what makes a planner stylish?

I like this question so much, I think I’ll have a contest to get your feedback!  Read on…

The thing about style is that it is subjective.  Things that I place a high style quotient on may be the worst thing you’ve ever seen and vice versa.  My definition of a stylish planner would be someone that is grace under pressure, appears fresh and put together for the duration of the event day.  Anyone can be stylish at a planners luncheon or a new venue grand opening when all that is to be done is to mingle and imbibe.  However, it is HARD to be stylish on the wedding/event day – all the very looong day!  Can I get an AMEN?!

I have one terrific book to giveaway to the best comment posted in reply to this question.  Aptly named, The Little Black Book of Style by Nina Garcia (of Project Runway).

Little Black Book

Here’s the jacket description:  Every time you dress, you assert your identity. With style, you tell the world your story. In that way, style affords you opportunities to think about your appearance as a quality of your creative character. The Little Black Book of Style helps you to explore your own fashion voice—the piece of you that joyously revels in the glamorous experience of creating your best self. From cultivating good taste to guarding against definite fashion faux pas, Nina Garcia offers readers the ultimate guide to follow when it comes to dressing their best. Including tips on how and when to wear an outfit, occasion-appropriate wear, advice on how to combine colors and textures, and inspiration on how to achieve your own signature look, you learn how to experiment, storyboard, archive, and play. Timeless and universal, this book seeks to remind women that eternal style is internal style, and that everyone has what it takes to discover themselves through the colorful palette that is fashion.

You’ll love this book for its function as your fashion and style encyclopedia.  Also, it has some of the coolest artwork I’ve seen in a long time!

Share your thoughts until midnight on Wednesday, November 25th, 2009 and the best comment will receive the book delivered to your door by your friendly neighborhood postman.  Think of it as a Christmas gift from me to you!

Inquiring minds want to know…what do you think makes a planner stylish?

  • Latrice - Bridal Opulence:

    Style to me is all about how you feel once you put something on. {Honestly a person can make sweats & sneakers look good its all in the attitude of confidence once you put it on}

I have a very classic style however I choose to show my personality with my accessories. This goes for the day of events. I will typically start the day with wide leg slacks that I feel comfortable in slouching around & a tee shirt. However for the event, I do take about 20 minutes to freshen up, redo my hair & makeup. I always wear black to events either a dress or my staple monogrammed blazer but I add the pop of color with my accessories & typically they match the wedding color palette.

  • Valerie of Southern Fete:

Wow! Great question! Shlepping around decor, running in heels, sweating etc. while brides and bridesmaids are looking their best always makes me think “Oh my goodness! Look away. I’m hideous!”
For wedding days, I try to dress effortlessly and classic. I’m not trying to win any fashion awards, just look professional. A white button down and jeans and my boots (they give me a heel without being uncomfortable). Or in the deep South where summer weddings are scorching, I’ll wear a jersey cotton dress.

  • Meredith Wullkotte of Risque Boudoir:

So true! I recently started working with a professional stylist to provide all my clients with a professional pre-session fashion consultation. She is also on hand during all sessions and it makes such a difference in the way my girls feel in front of the camera! There’s a confidence that radiates when the woman inside you matches who people see on the outside! Every piece you chose to wear (or not wear) says something about you!

  • Andria of Andria Lewis Events:

Truer words have never been spoken. It is really important to me to appear as polished as possible on wedding day. But, when you are lifting 100lb boxes and your Blackberry is going off every 5 minutes that becomes difficult. I hope I win the contest so I can learn a few tips and tricks from the book.

  • Share the nominations and voting results with you in a future post
  • Conduct an in-depth interview with the Most Stylish Planner and award her (or him) a box of Godiva Chocolates!  {Maybe she won’t be so stylish if we fatten her up and she can’t fit in her skinny clothes anymore!!  I know, that was snarky, please forgive me!}

Godiva chocolates

Ulterior motives and all, I’m so excited to see the outcome!

Cast your vote (send me a tweet) by Wednesday, November 25th, 2009 at midnight.
