serious business: music on websites-good or bad idea? August 02, 2010 posted in Serious Business

I am a music lover.  I get lost in good music.   It inspires me, motivates me, takes me back to another time and even makes me cry.  I’m guessing most of you know what I mean.  I’m at my best when I can rock out, and I almost always have music playing in my home and my car.

Until about 6 months ago, I had music on my website home page, and each couple’s first dance song playing in their photo gallery.  After reading the blogs and tweets of several wedding pros, I took all the music down.  My website feels boring, I miss the music.  But upon further research, I feel like I made the right decision.

What do you think?  Do you have music on your website?  Why or why not?

If you want to read more about why I took the music down, here are two really great articles to read:

Article #1

Article #2

Please note that Article #2 includes a good “compromise” between music and no music.

Have a great week!

Thanks for the comment, Jessica! Brides doing planning during work hours was a BIG reason I took my down. I don’t want to be dismissed because of music.

I have to admit I am not a fan of music on websites. Especially as a recent bride, I did alot of ‘research’ on vendors while at work, and when music would start to play that would give me away!! Most brides are planning from work, whether it’s during their lunch hour or sneaking some in during their work day. I didn’t like getting busted by having the music start playing on a website. And because all people’s tastes differ, a bride might approach your site and not like your music and assume they wouldn’t mesh well with you, when in fact you might work together fabulously! The one article mentioned MySpace in terms of music on websites and I couldn’t agree more. That’s why no one uses that site anymore! haha
